Illicit Drug Profiling

The Australian Illicit Drug Intelligence Program is based on a collaboration between NMI and the Australian Federal Police. The aim of the program is to provide law enforcement agencies with strategic and tactical intelligence in an effort to restrict drug trafficking across Australian borders and obtain successful prosecutions of drug traffickers.

The basis of the program is the physical and chemical profiling of illicit drugs and the subsequent population of a database and the searching of new drug seizures against that database. Using this procedure, information indicative of geographic origin, trafficking routes and precursor chemicals employed in the production of drugs, is produced. This information may then be used by law enforcement agencies.
